Laser hair removal works best on dark hair and skin type I – IV. The pulses of the laser are attracted to the melanin in the hair. It’s melanin that gives hair it’s colour. This melanin pigment absorbs the laser light. For this reason white and grey hair will not respond to laser hair removal. Fair and red hair can respond to the correct laser but white hair will not.

Regular treatments will get best results and are usually carried out every 4 weeks for the face and 6 to 8 weeks for the body.
On average between 6 and 12 treatments are required to get satisfactory results and each individual varies in how the hair responds to the treatment. Additional treatments may be required as time goes on.

If your hair is fair, or fluffy facial hair that is not dark laser is unlikely to work and you will be offered a referral to our colleagues who offer electrolysis instead as this is a good option for fair hair. Electrolysis is best on small areas such as the face.
For some women unwanted hair can be caused by a medical condition such as Polycystic ovary syndrome. When hair is caused by medical problems it may be that treatments need to be carried out over longer periods of time. The goal in these situations would be to achieve manageable hair regrowth rather than complete hair removal for a prolonged period.
You will be expected to shave rather than wax, use depilatory cream or pluck hair as the hair follicle must remain intact within the skin if laser is to be effective.
You should expect to continue with normal activities immediately after treatment, the skin may feel a little sore and appear a little red for a few hours after treatment. If it is sore or feels warm an ice pack can be applied to the skin and skin care will be advised. You can use aloe vera gel to soothe the area.
